About U.N.A.F.T.C.

The main objective is to develop the mutual support and the information of the families which are at the same time particularly affected and bewildered by the lack of establishments and services of reception. It is also urgent to make known to the general public and the qualified administrations this “silent epidemic”, in order to cause the creation of specific services and establishments for people with brain injury.

In 2012 UNAFTC is made up of three colleges:

  • 50 AFTC (Departmental associations of families with one member suffering a brain injury) federate in area by regional coordinators.
  • 80 Establishments and Services dedicated to people suffering a brain injury.
  • 40 GEM, i.e 40 groups of mutual support created with and for people victims of an acquired brain injury,
organizing themselves the life and the activities of their group with the assistance of an "association marraine".

Services provided

  • Help-line (consulting)
  • Psychological support
  • Information and formation (Review, days of formation)

Fields of possible cooperation

  • Awareness campaigns

History

In 1985 the first Association of families of which one of the members suffers a brain injury (AFTC) is created in Bordeaux by some families, in particular Jacques and Catherine MONDAIN-MONVAL, from whom the girl, victim of an accident, had just died.

A handful of associations follow, and the need is essential of a gathering: the UNAFTC is founded in Bordeaux, on October 10th, 1986. Jacques MONDAIN-MONVAL is elected President.
